August 2011

One of my least favorite chores:

People give me a lot of credit for being so organized and motivated at everything I do.  But I’m telling you, it’s a struggle sometimes!

I pack lunch and snacks for myself and my husband EVERY SINGLE DAY.

I also fix him breakfast-to-go (a Green Monster (that works on so many levels btw)) every morning.

I do not enjoy doing this.

I force myself to prep everything the night before.

It’s healthier and much cheaper than buying lunches every day.  And it really doesn’t take that much time in the grand scheme of things.  I just don’t like it!

The husband receives a smoothie, banana, mixed nuts, an orange, and usually leftovers for lunch.

I pack myself an organic apple w/almond butter, a Lara Bar, and some sort of ginormous salad.  Currently it’s this:

That’s some kale, quinoa, garbanzo beans, feta cheese, lemon juice, roasted eggplant, hummus, and balsamic vinegar.

I ate kale salad every day for months.  My co-workers thought I was crazy.  Then I announced that 2011 would be the year of arugula!  And I just last week switched back to kale.  I usually always have the same fun toppings!  It’s really tasty and full of vitamins and fiber and other super fun things.

So, even though I don’t want to spend 10 minutes of my evening putting lunch together, I do it.  I know it’s worth it, so I just do it!  I know it’s good for me, so I friggen do it!

Don’t make excuses.  You know what’s good for you, so do it!

Because forcing myself to pack lunch takes so much out of me, I’ve been slacking on setting up my coffee maker for the following morning.  I’ve been cheating:

I told you I was lazy!

I love to read.  I love to run.

“reading” + running = bueno!

This is an ode to the audiobook.

I catch quite a bit of flack from people over my audiobook addiction.  People insist it’s not a substitute for actually reading.

I agree!  It doesn’t compare to actually reading.  But I don’t have a whole heck of a lot of time to curl up with a good book.

I started listening to audiobooks around the beginning of the year.  After months of marathon training, I’d seriously exhausted my music library and needed something that kept me a bit more engaged.

Since then I’ve “read” more than I’ve read in the last 10 years.

Here is a list of books I’ve “read” while running this year:

Born to Run – loved it!!!  Inspired me to ditch the stability shoes and arch supports in favor of Nike Free Runs.

Born to Run

Chi Running – Not a great “read”.  More of a skim at Barnes & Noble.

The Help – Can’t wait for the movie!

All of the Twilight Novels – Enjoyed the books.  Don’t love the movies though.

The Host – about a zillion times better than Twilight

Sarah’s Key – A little overrated.

Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter – Meh.  I really wanted to like this.

Sookie Stackhouse Series:  Dead Until Dark – LOVE TRUE BLOOD!!!

Chelsea Handler:  My horizontal Life – Hilarious!

Chelsea Handler:  Are you there Vodka?  It’s me, Chelsea – Also hilarious!

I know there are a couple more I can’t quite remember….

Right now I’m “reading”:

The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks – Interesting, but I get queasy hearing about lady parts for extended periods of time.

Agent to the Stars – As read by Wil Wheaton!

The Hunger Games – I’m hooked!

I started our purchasing from Barnes & Noble, then getting free downloads from the San Diego County Library.  Now I also have an Audible account.

Those are a whole lot of links!  Make it worth my while…Any recommendations?

Monday was long.

Today was rough.

Tomorrow will be brutal.

I was feeling wiped out after dinner tonight.  I sat on the couch trying to talk myself into a workout.  I’d gone for my regularly scheduled walk with Becca, but I knew I should do something to really get my blood pumping.

My schedule called for 3 miles + Body Rock.

I decided to just commit to the 12 minute Death to Fat routine and call it a night.  I turned on an episode of The Office I had DVRd and got down to business.  And that was the end of exercise for the day!

It’s not what I had planned, but it’s better than nothing.

Life won’t always follow your plans.  I’m tired from work and don’t see the situation improving anytime soon.  I’ll have to make the best of things in the meantime!

My plans to run 9 miles on Sunday resulted in this hot sweaty mess:

It was humid and those pants were NOT moisture wicking!  I have the chaffing to prove it! 😦
